Version 1.0
Format JSON
ELD ID ERS238

Overview

The ERETH ELD REST API provides real-time access to vehicle locations, driver Hours of Service (HOS) data, and fleet status for carriers using the ERETH ELD system. This API is designed for integration with Highway and other third-party platforms.

ELD ProviderERETH ELD
FMCSA ELD IDERS238
Base URLhttps://eretheld.com/api/v1
AuthenticationBearer token in Authorization header
FormatJSON — all requests and responses
EncodingUTF-8
TimestampsISO 8601 / UTC (e.g. 2026-08-04T21:49:07.000Z)
CoordinatesDecimal degrees — WGS84 (latitude, longitude)
ℹ All data is scoped to the carrier associated with your API key. A single key cannot access data from other carriers.

Authentication

Each carrier generates a unique API key from the Fleet Admin Panel. Include the key as a Bearer token in the Authorization header on every request.

Request Header
Authorization: Bearer {api_key}
Example — cURL
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer ereth_live_xxxx" \
  https://eretheld.com/api/v1/vehicles
⚠ API keys are shown only once at generation time. Store them securely. If a key is lost or compromised, generate a new one from the Fleet Admin Panel and revoke the old key immediately.

Error Responses

All errors return JSON with an error field describing the problem. HTTP status codes follow standard conventions.

StatusError MessageCause
401 API key required No Authorization header sent
401 Invalid or revoked API key Key does not exist or has been revoked
404 Vehicle not found VIN not found or belongs to a different carrier
404 Driver not found Driver ID not found or belongs to a different carrier
500 Internal server error Unexpected server-side failure
Error Response Format
// 401 Unauthorized
{ "error": "API key required" }

// 404 Not Found
{ "error": "Vehicle not found" }

// 500 Server Error
{ "error": "Internal server error" }

Carrier API Key Setup

Each carrier gets their own unique API key. Fleet managers generate keys directly from the ERETH ELD Admin Panel — no technical setup required.

1
Fleet manager logs in at eretheld.com/admin-panel/
2
Navigate to Carriers → select the carrier → click API Keys
3
Click Generate New Key
4
Copy the generated key — it is shown only once. Store it securely.
5
Provide the key to Highway during carrier onboarding
ℹ Keys can be revoked at any time from the Admin Panel. Revoked keys return HTTP 401 immediately. Generate a new key and update Highway if a key needs to be rotated.

Test Credentials

Use these credentials to test the Highway integration before going live with a real carrier. The test carrier has two active vehicles with live GPS data.
